Dogs day out at Durlston Country Park

Durlston Country Park

Off on a little adventure with Dexter and my humans today to Swanage!

First off catch the bus from the Swanage Railway Station up to Durlston Country Park ….. no sense in walking up the steep hill when you can get the bus.

It seems the bus idea is quite popular as there are more dogs than humans on the bus, almost like a dog day out!

Durlston Country Park is a beautiful mix of coast and countryside and is over 320 acres so plenty of room to explore.

We get off the bus at the Country Park and head right along the paths and down to the lighthouse, the views are stunning and there are plenty of sniffs to take in. I should also point out that there are plenty of birdies as well, however I am on the lead, mainly for the reason that I chase the birds and also that we are quite close to the cliff edge and dogs do not fly very well (so I am told)

As we get down to the lighthouse and whilst the humans take in the scenery, Dexter takes this quick opportunity to roll in poop (and not rabbit or deer I might add) He looked very impressed with himself until the humans tell him off and I refused to walk next to him, I don’t want anyone thinking that I smell that bad!

Tilly Whim caves

Off we go and continue past the lighthouse and down the steep hill next to the Tilly Whim caves and up the other side, you humans will need good footwear for this bit as flip flops won’t do the job. There are lots of lovely walks in and around Durlston that you can do, and not all of them involve steep hills.

The humans decided we need a quick pit stop and pop into the café at Durlston Castle for a cuppa and cake, us dogs are welcomed inside the café and outside on the terrace and there are plenty of water bowls for us to use.

Fed and watered we set off down the hill towards Swanage, I love Swanage one of my favourite all time places, however at this time of the year us dogs are only allowed on certain parts of the beach. The humans don’t think it’s a good idea to have us running about in amongst the sunbathers or trying to pinch their sandwiches!

Monkey Beach, Swanage

Monkey Beach (not sure why it is called that) by the sailing club allows dogs all year round and having put up with the smell of poop for so long the humans encouraged Dexter to have a splash around in the sea. Half an hour of splashing around and catching pebbles and the smell is gone!!

So off we go for a little walk along the seafront for a dinner of fish and chips (humans anyway) we did manage to get some scraps though…… these humans are well trained!
