New Forest sniffing

Off to the New Forest for a day out with the humans, we took the train to Brockenhurst and then on to Beaulieu Road ready to start our walk.

I swear my humans are trying to turn me into a sausage dog with all the walking we do!

We started our walk at Shatterford, just across from the station, with our supplies checked we were ready for the off.

We followed a mix of the main paths and the map that the humans had brought along, good job we weren’t reliant on me as the only thing I am good at sniffing out is rabbits!

The New Forest is great as you are able to get away from the hustle and bustle and explore the beautiful outdoors, it has a mix of beautiful heathland which seems to go on for miles and miles and thick woodland (great for a bit of shade for us dogs)

Sniffs are a plenty here, with rabbits, deer and even horses roaming freely, and that’s without taking into account any birdies!

Apparently there are over 140 miles of tracks and footpaths in the New Forest, from short walks to long distance trails, thankfully we were only doing 6 miles!

After what seemed like hours and hours (maybe a slight exaggeration) we made our way in to Brockenhurst, which is the largest village in the New Forest. The village itself is very pretty with lots of cafes and tea rooms which are dog friendly.

We stopped at a place called The Terrace to refuel, don’t think us dogs were allowed inside but they had plenty of water bowls outside for us, which was good enough for me!

As we made our way back to the train station we came across cows lying on grassy verges, donkeys in people’s front gardens and horses in the middle of the road, they were literally just stood there without a care in the world, with humans taking photos of them. They weren’t joking when they said about free roaming animals in the New Forest!

All in all the New Forest is a great place to walk and exercise us hounds as well as you humans.

I am now looking forward to a well earned rest on the way back home!
