The humans have a week off from work, for most that means a rest but oh no not my humans!
They decided a nice little walk from Cogden beach to West Bay along the South West coast path.
Meet my friend Dexter, he joined us for this walk. He's a little older than me, but he is great company and apparently better behaved than me (meaning he doesn't chase rabbits!)
First up was Cogden beach with its National Trust car park, it's all pebbles but us dogs are allowed on there all year round and we don't have to be on a lead (yippee). Ten minutes of us chasing about like mad dogs and oh look birdies......must chase birdies. They seem to fly just out of reach, just enough so that I can see them and chase them but not low enough to catch them.....clever birdies!
Back onto the leads as we go up onto the cliff and start our walk along the coast path, next stop is Hive beach, there is a dog friendly cafe and toilets for the humans. Unfortunately we are not allowed on the beach during June to October but we are at other times.
So onwards and upwards continuing along the coast path, the scenery is beautiful and you can see for miles in both directions. The coast path is quite hilly so we did have a few stops, mainly for water and because Dexter is a little slower on the uphill bits.
Coming down into West Bay it is pretty steep, that's ok for us dogs but you humans need to make sure you have sensible footwear on, we don't want you falling and hurting yourselves. At West Bay we are not allowed on the East beach and West beach during May to September, however we are allowed on the East cliff beach area and West cliff beach at all times. We are even allowed off lead on these ones but we do have to behave ourselves and look like the humans have us under control.
We all needed a rest and some food so we stopped at The Watch House cafe which is right on the beach, us dogs are allowed both inside and outside. They have water bowls on hand and tie up points should you need them and you can purchase homemade dog treats.
The humans ordered something with fish, which smelt so go it made my mouth water, however they did throw a little bit of it our way. It must be because we gave them that ' we are half starved' look!
With us all fed, watered and rested we set off, we had a walk along the front where there are lots of little shops that we are allowed in and many exciting smells! We then started to make our journey back, this time we headed inland, taking in one of the public footpaths up the hill and through the middle of the golf course.
There are a few stiles along the way, unfortunately there was one that really wasn't designed to let dogs through. For me being small I could just crawl under this one but for Dexter it was a different story, he needed to be lifted across by the humans. His face was a picture, he was not happy about that at all ( it was quite funny from where I was standing)
The path back was far flatter which was quite good and for some reason didn't seem to take so long, which was good as my four little legs were getting a bit tired, I couldn't wait to get back to the car for a snooze.
Later that evening .........
