A day out the humans said, great that means hopefully new sniffs, smells and lamp posts to check out!
The humans decided we were going to the Isle of Wight for the day, so the trusty rucksack was packed and we headed off down to the train station.
I must say the trains aren’t too bad for a dog, although please remember my canine friends to pee before you go on as unless you can use the humans loos, you will have to cross your four legs until you get off!
The Isle of Wight ferry company Wightlink allow us dogs on board and we don’t even have to sit outside, we are actually allowed to sit in some of the lounges. The lounges have carpet so we can lay down in comfort, and watch the birds out the windows…. Result!
First pit stop when we got off the ferry in Yarmouth, was the closest lamp post (ah so much better) and then off to Yarmouth Castle, which is owned by the English Heritage and next door to the Ferry terminal.
Us dogs are allowed in the castle just so long as the humans keep us on a lead ….. oh well can’t have it all ways I suppose! The Castle has lots of rooms to pop in and out of with more great smells which must be something to do with how old the place is. Outside it has a great picnic area, with views over the Solent and Yarmouth Harbour (I will not be trying to jump into that!)
We left the Castle to check out Yarmouth itself, plenty of dogs bowls dotted about from very kind shop keepers, who obviously don’t mind us dogs. The town has lots of little shops such as gift shops, tea rooms and independent shops, which is something to keep the humans amused!
The humans decided that they needed feeding so we stopped at a place called The Bugle Coaching Inn, right in the town centre, humans asked where I was allowed and they said that there were no restrictions just not behind the bar or in the kitchen (spoil sports)
Humans decided on a fish platter, which smelt amazing! I sat there waiting with my mouth watering hoping that a small piece may find its way into my mouth, after all I had been very well behaved so far! As luck would happen a small piece did which tasted so much better than the gravy bone I received afterwards.
Fed and watered we were off and ready to go, we headed up to the old Yarmouth to Freshwater old railway line to walk off lunch, an out and back route that is 3.2 miles. The route is pretty flat and is used a lot by humans on bikes and those with us dogs, there are plenty of good sniffing spots, from other dogs that have passed by or just the wildlife.
Thankfully the humans decided that they needed a refreshment stop after the walk, so we stopped at the old Yarmouth railway station a place called ‘Off The Rails’. They advertise it as one of the most dog friendly places on the Island and it did not disappoint! Apart from walking into a pet shop there isn’t really any place better, there are plenty of dog water bowls around but they do ask that our paws are clean before going inside (I can cope with that)
Would you believe that they even have a dog menu…. Yes that’s right! A menu for us to have dog food or we can have treat bags and goodies, how amazing is that!
The humans appear to be well catered for to as they do a range of lunches, homemade cakes and evening meals!
All in all a very good day, these little legs have done well and I am now completely pooped!!
